The Uptown Podcast
The Uptown Podcast is rooted in the culture, history, and evolution of Harlem — telling the story of:
The Past – The golden era of music, culture, and Black excellence
The Present – Today’s voices, businesses, and community leaders
The Future – The next generation shaping Harlem and beyond
The Uptown Podcast, founded by George Harrell, a seasoned industry veteran with over thirty years of experience in A&R, promotions, management, and production, offers a rich exploration of Black music history.
George Harrell, Jr., one of the founding members of Uptown Records, began his career as a chaperone and tour manager for emerging artists and later held crucial roles, including Northeast Regional Manager of Urban Promotions at Uptown and overseeing national radio promotions at Motown and Interscope Records.
With his extensive background in artist development, marketing, and production since the 1980s, Harrell created the Uptown Podcast to preserve the legacy of Black music, engage in dialogue with pioneering artists, and provide the Harlem community with opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in digital media and the arts through Harrell Community Outreach.
